{"id":131243,"date":"2025-10-21T06:32:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T06:32:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=131243"},"modified":"2025-10-21T06:32:23","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T06:32:23","slug":"mine-blasts-claim-over-150-civilian-victims-across-syria-in-2-months-un-backed-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/131243\/","title":{"rendered":"Mine blasts claim over 150 civilian victims across Syria in 2 months \u2013 UN-backed report\u00a0 \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> At least 158 civilians were killed or injured in landmine and explosive ordnance incidents across Syria between Aug. 15 and Oct. 15, 2025, according to a joint report released on Monday by Handicap International\u2013Humanity &amp; Inclusion (HI), the Mine Action Area of Responsibility (MA AoR), the Protection Cluster, and the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report, titled \u201cPersistent Explosive-Ordnance Threats Amid Ongoing Humanitarian Efforts,\u201d documented 108 incidents resulting in 39 fatalities and 119 injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Men and boys accounted for the majority of victims, with most explosions occurring in agricultural and grazing areas where civilians often return to earn their livelihoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The highest numbers of casualties were reported in Homs, Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, and Daraa governorates, regions heavily contaminated by explosive remnants of war left from over a decade of conflict, the report noted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/reliefweb.int\/report\/syrian-arab-republic\/syria-mine-action-aor-situation-update-no-5-august-15-october-15-2025\">report<\/a>, explosive contamination continues to endanger civilians and obstruct humanitarian aid delivery, early recovery, and reconstruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Syria remains one of the most contaminated countries in the world, with millions of landmines and unexploded ordnance scattered across former battlefields, farmlands, and residential areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011, thousands of civilians\u2014many of them children\u2014have been killed or maimed by explosive remnants of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Humanity &amp; Inclusion (HI), formerly known as Handicap International, is an international humanitarian NGO working in nearly 60 countries to support people with disabilities and victims of conflict. The UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) leads global efforts to coordinate mine action activities, while the Mine Action Area of Responsibility (MA AoR), under the Protection Cluster, coordinates
