{"id":131149,"date":"2025-10-18T18:51:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T18:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=131149"},"modified":"2025-10-18T18:51:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T18:51:09","slug":"al-sheibani-urges-urgent-partnership-with-sdf-to-preserve-syrias-unity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/131149\/","title":{"rendered":"Al-Sheibani urges urgent partnership with SDF to preserve Syria\u2019s unity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) <\/strong>\u2013 Asaad al-Sheibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Syrian Transitional Government, called on Saturday for an urgent partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to safeguard Syria\u2019s unity and end the suffering of civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking to the state-run al-Ikhbariya TV channel, al-Sheibani said that the absence of the SDF from state institutions \u201cdeepens division and fragmentation,\u201d emphasizing what he described as a \u201chistoric opportunity\u201d for North and East Syria to play an active role in the country\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is a historic chance for Northeast Syria to be a key part of this phase,\u201d al-Sheibani stated. He added, \u201cFailure to reach an agreement with the SDF hampers the interests of civilians and delays the return of displaced people to their homes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further said that President Ahmad al-Sharaa \u201cis keen for the Syrian Democratic Forces to be an essential component of Syria\u2019s future,\u201d noting that the government had succeeded in convincing countries following the SDF issue that \u201cthe only viable solution lies in the March 10 agreement, making partnership an urgent necessity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Sheibani reiterated that the government \u201crejects any form of division or federalism,\u201d saying these topics are \u201cnot up for negotiation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commenting on the recent unrest in Suwayda Governorate, al-Sheibani described it as a \u201cSyrian wound,\u201d adding that the government\u2019s partners had approved a roadmap to address the situation and that a fact-finding committee was already working on the issue. He urged community leaders and Druze religious figures to help resolve the crisis, asserting that \u201cthe matter remains internal and must be handled nationally,\u201d though he accused foreign actors of attempting to exploit it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding foreign relations, al-Sheibani said that his government seeks to \u201ccorrect relations with Lebanon\u201d and ensure \u201ca dignified return\u201d for Syrian refugees.
