{"id":130929,"date":"2025-10-13T09:41:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T09:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=130929"},"modified":"2025-10-13T09:41:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T09:41:08","slug":"mazloum-abdi-says-sdf-reaches-preliminary-integration-deal-with-damascus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/130929\/","title":{"rendered":"Mazloum Abdi says SDF reaches &#8220;preliminary&#8221; integration deal with Damascus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, announced on Monday that a \u201cpreliminary agreement\u201d has been reached with Damascus to integrate SDF fighters and security forces into Syria\u2019s defense and interior ministries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abdi told AFP that the understanding followed recent talks in Damascus with Syria&#8217;s Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa, U.S. envoy Tom Barrack, and U.S. commander Brad Cooper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat is new in our recent talks in Damascus is the shared determination and strong will to accelerate the implementation of the terms,\u201d Abdi added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that delegations from the SDF and the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) are currently in Damascus to discuss the mechanism of integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The most important point is having reached a preliminary agreement regarding the mechanism for integrating the SDF and the (Kurdish) Internal Security Forces within the framework of defence and interior ministries,&#8221; he emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abdi acknowledged that while significant progress has been made, disagreements persist \u2014 particularly regarding the demand for a decentralized governance system. \u201cWe demand a decentralised system in Syria&#8230; we have not agreed on it,&#8221; he added, as they are &#8220;still discussing finding a common formula acceptable to all,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He affirmed that both sides agree on Syria\u2019s territorial integrity, the unity of national symbols, and the need to prevent a return to war.
