HASAKAH, Syria (North Press)<\/strong> \u2013 The Committee of the Displaced from Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) held a dialogue session Wednesday in the city of Hasakah, northeast Syria, under the slogan \u201cSix years of forced displacement, and safe return is our legitimate right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dozens of displaced people, activists, and rights defenders attended the session, marking six years since Turkish forces and their allied factions took control of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad on October 9, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jiwan Isso, a lawyer and member of the Committee of the Displaced from Sere Kaniye, told North Press that \u201cthe painful anniversary of Sere Kaniye\u2019s occupation reflects the ongoing suffering of tens of thousands of displaced people who have been living in camps for six years without any prospect of resolution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added, \u201cDespite recent promises and agreements, nothing has been implemented on the ground.\u201d Iso noted that the Syrian government has yet to prioritize the displaced people\u2019s issue in any political process or in plans for building a new Syria. \u201cIgnoring this file keeps the situation unstable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Isso, the goal of the event was to \u201craise the voices of the displaced to both local and international public opinion and call for greater coordination among international organizations and guarantor states to implement the terms of the March 10 agreement, especially the clause guaranteeing the safe return of displaced residents to their homes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
