{"id":130612,"date":"2025-10-06T10:29:27","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T10:29:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=130612"},"modified":"2025-10-06T10:29:30","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T10:29:30","slug":"australias-pm-faces-scrutiny-over-return-of-isis-women-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/130612\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia&#8217;s PM faces scrutiny over return of ISIS women, children\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Australia&#8217;s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese declined on Monday to explain his government\u2019s role in the return of women linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) and their children to Australia from Syria, amid growing political criticism and public concern over national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Albanese reiterated that reports about the government\u2019s involvement in repatriating the women were \u201cnot accurate,\u201d adding that \u201cAustralia did not provide assistance\u201d and that the women, as Australian citizens, had the right to return, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skynews.com.au\/australia-news\/politics\/prime-minister-anthony-albanese-silent-on-return-of-isis-brides-from-syria-as-government-denies-role-in-repatriation\/news-story\/aa3519076069ce8bd8267d9fcdf34532\">Sky News Australia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The controversy follows reports that two women and four children arrived in Australia over the weekend, marking what is believed to be the third group of ISIS-linked individuals to return since 2019. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After leaving Syria, the women were detained in Beirut, and later processed by Lebanese and Australian authorities before being issued passports, according to a previous report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-10-03\/isis-brides-return-australia-smuggle-syria\/105850360\">ABC Australia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opposition accused the Labor government of secrecy and failing to be transparent about the return. Shadow Immigration Minister Paul Scarr said the government \u201cmust provide answers,\u201d questioning whether it knowingly facilitated the women\u2019s return or if it occurred without its awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scarr warned that \u201cboth scenarios are deeply concerning,\u201d emphasizing that \u201cthe safety of Australians must always come first.\u201d Opposition Leader Sussan Ley also expressed \u201cgrave concern\u201d over what she called a \u201chighly dangerous cohort\u201d returning to the country. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the Department of Home Affairs denied government involvement, saying that Australian security agencies had monitored the individuals and were \u201cprepared to act in the interests of community safety.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australia has repatriated several women and children from Syria since 2019, many of whom were living in Hawl and Roj camps for families of ISIS militants.
