{"id":130589,"date":"2025-10-06T07:44:31","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T07:44:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=130589"},"modified":"2025-10-06T07:44:36","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T07:44:36","slug":"syrian-election-body-reports-50-districts-excludes-northeast-and-suwayda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/130589\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian election body reports 50 districts, excludes Northeast and Suwayda"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Head of the High Commission for People&#8217;s Assembly Elections, Mohammed Taha al-Ahmad, announced on Sunday that parliamentary elections were held in 50 electoral districts out of 62 across Syria, while voting was postponed in 12 districts located in the country\u2019s northeast and in Suwayda Governorate in the south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement to Syria TV, al-Ahmad said that preliminary results have been released in 49 districts, with results from the Samaan District in Aleppo expected to be announced in the coming hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stressed that the commission aimed to ensure broad representation in the new parliament, noting, \u201cWe were keen to represent all components and to include women in the People\u2019s Assembly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, al-Ahmad admitted that women\u2019s representation in the newly elected assembly did not exceed three percent after the counting process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa would seek to address these gaps through the appointment of one-third of the assembly\u2019s members, as permitted by law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The parliamentary elections, held on Sunday, marked the first legislative vote organized under the transitional government led by Ahmad al-Sharaa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, voting did not take place in several regions, including the Druze-majority governorate of Suwayda in the south and the Kurdish-majority areas in the northeast \u2013 the region run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exclusion of these regions has raised concerns about the inclusivity and legitimacy of the electoral process, as millions of Syrians in those areas were unable to participate in choosing their representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Malin Mohammed<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Editing by Jwan Shekaki<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Head of the High Commission for People&#8217;s Assembly Elections, Mohammed Taha al-Ahmad, announced on Sunday that parliamentary elections were held in 50 electoral districts out of 62 across Syria, while voting was postponed in 12 districts located in the country\u2019s northeast and in Suwayda Governorate in the south.
