{"id":130356,"date":"2025-09-29T11:13:26","date_gmt":"2025-09-29T11:13:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=130356"},"modified":"2025-09-29T11:13:28","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T11:13:28","slug":"aleppo-faces-major-water-losses-misuse-amid-worst-drought-in-50-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/130356\/","title":{"rendered":"Aleppo faces major water losses, misuse amid worst drought in 50 years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>The General Manager of the General Establishment for Drinking Water in Aleppo, Jamal Diban, said on Monday that the main challenges facing the sector stem from the absence of effective water rationing in the city and significant losses in the distribution network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diban told North Press that maintenance and repair work is currently underway to address the network\u2019s losses and improve water delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that a considerable portion of Aleppo\u2019s water supply is being wasted due to misuse by residents, who often use drinking water for \u201cwashing cars and streets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Diban, the establishment pumps between 500,000 and 550,000 cubic meters of water to Aleppo every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The official added that \u201clast year, Syria witnessed the lowest rainfall in fifty years,\u201d which has worsened the country\u2019s water crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diban highlighted that \u201caround 55 projects in the southern countryside are either completed or under implementation,\u201d stressing that the establishment is \u201cmaking steady progress in ensuring access to safe drinking water for residents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The water crisis in Aleppo reflects a broader problem across northwern Syria, where prolonged drought, declining rainfall, and deteriorating infrastructure have severely strained water resources.
