{"id":130309,"date":"2025-09-28T08:00:54","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T08:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=130309"},"modified":"2025-09-28T08:00:56","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T08:00:56","slug":"flour-shipment-arrives-in-syrias-suwayda-amid-ongoing-bread-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/130309\/","title":{"rendered":"Flour shipment arrives in Syria\u2019s Suwayda amid ongoing bread crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> A shipment of around 200 tons of flour arrived on Saturday in Suwayda Governorate, southern Syria, and was distributed to public and private bakeries after a four-day halt in their operations, which caused a severe bread shortage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local sources told North Press that the shipment, totaling about 200 tons, was delivered through contributions from local associations, international organizations, and donations from expatriates from the governorate in an effort to ease residents\u2019 suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sources added that the supplied quantity is sufficient to operate bakeries for only two days, as the flour crisis continues in Suwayda following recent unrest in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sep. 26, Mustafa Bakour, Governor of Suwayda, said that the ongoing flour shortage in the governorate is \u201cfabricated to cover up other issues,\u201d dismissing local concerns about government negligence.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bakour told reporters that the government\u2019s \u201conly condition for allowing food supplies into Suwayda is that there be no monopolization or price manipulation,\u201d adding that \u201cmerchants and commercial convoys are free to bring flour into the governorate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suwayda, a Druze-majority Governorate, has been facing a severe flour and bread crisis for weeks due to disrupted supply routes, delayed government shipments, and a lack of local administrative coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many bakeries have shut down, leading to widespread bread shortages across the governorate.
