{"id":130258,"date":"2025-09-27T07:48:03","date_gmt":"2025-09-27T07:48:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=130258"},"modified":"2025-09-27T07:48:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T07:48:05","slug":"suwayda-governor-denies-flour-crisis-resettlement-rumors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/130258\/","title":{"rendered":"Suwayda governor denies flour crisis, resettlement rumors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Governor of Suwayda in southern Syria, Mustafa Bakour, said on Friday that the ongoing flour shortage in the governorate is \u201cfabricated to cover up other issues,\u201d dismissing local concerns about government negligence.<strong> &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bakour told reporters that the government\u2019s \u201conly condition for allowing food supplies into Suwayda is that there be no monopolization or price manipulation,\u201d adding that \u201cmerchants and commercial convoys are free to bring flour into the governorate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stressed the need to \u201cseparate service-related matters from political agendas.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Bakour, state institutions in Damascus are ready to send wheat and flour to Suwayda, but the lack of a local administrative body capable of receiving and distributing supplies to bakeries has delayed the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing rumors circulating on social media, Bakour denied reports about the resettlement of tribal families in predominantly Druze areas, saying such claims were aimed at inciting sectarian tension. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the government is working to rehabilitate infrastructure in depopulated areas of the governorate to facilitate the return of displaced residents. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, local sources told North Press that Suwayda has been experiencing a severe flour shortage for the past two days, forcing most bakeries to close and causing bread to disappear entirely from local markets. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suwayda has been facing a severe flour and bread crisis for weeks due to disrupted supply routes, delayed government shipments, and a lack of local administrative coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many bakeries have shut down, leading to widespread bread shortages across the Druze-majority governorate. Residents accuse Damascus of imposing an undeclared blockade, while officials blame logistical issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previous North Press reports noted that the crisis
