HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Ali Rahmoun, Deputy Co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), said on Tuesday that the March 10 agreement came as a lifeline for the Damascus authorities in the wake of massacres committed in Syria\u2019s coastal region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an exclusive interview with North Press, Rahmoun stated that the agreement, signed between the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syria\u2019s Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa, was concluded just one day after security forces carried out massacres against the Alawite community in coastal cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis agreement came at a very critical time. It rescued the authorities after the massacres on the coast,\u201d Rahmoun said. \u201cIt spared them from accountability for crimes they committed or incited.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the agreement\u2019s declaration of general principles, Rahmoun stressed that \u201cno real progress has been made on any of its points.\u201d He described the delays as \u201ca form of evasion, procrastination, and playing for time, waiting for circumstances to change in order to abandon the agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He recalled that the first article of the agreement called for the participation of all Syrians in state institutions and administrations. \u201cInstead, the majority of Syrians have been excluded. Ministries and institutions are restricted to a very small segment of the population,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turning to the upcoming parliamentary elections announced by the Syrian transitional government, Rahmoun dismissed them as unrepresentative. \u201cWe cannot call them elections, especially with the exclusion of northeastern Syria, which makes up one-third of the country, along with Suwayda and millions of displaced Syrians abroad,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded that the process reflects proportional representation based on an agenda imposed by the authorities. \u201cThese so-called elections are presented as a national dialogue or a transitional government, but in reality, they are limited to one faction, one group, one color, and one party.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
