{"id":129582,"date":"2025-09-12T11:37:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T11:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=129582"},"modified":"2025-09-12T11:37:23","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T11:37:23","slug":"suspected-isis-attack-hits-asayish-checkpoint-in-eastern-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/129582\/","title":{"rendered":"Suspected ISIS attack hits Asayish checkpoint in eastern Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) <\/strong>\u2013 One member of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) was killed and another injured on Friday after an armed attack targeted an Asayish checkpoint in a town in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A security source from Asayish told North Press that unidentified gunmen, suspected to be affiliated with ISIS, attacked the checkpoint at the entrance of the town of Darnaj using Kalashnikov rifles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source added that the attack resulted in one death and one injury, and clashes briefly erupted between the attackers and checkpoint personnel before the assailants fled toward the surrounding desert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source emphasized that this is the first attack targeting this checkpoint since ISIS was expelled from the area several years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eyewitnesses near the site reported that the attackers chanted pro-ISIS slogans during their retreat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eastern Deir ez-Zor has witnessed a surge in armed attacks targeting SDF and Asayish personnel in recent months. On July 13, 2025, an SDF checkpoint in Abu Hammam town was hit by a rocket attack, followed by clashes with the assailants, who later fled. On July 23, an Asayish officer was seriously injured during an attack on a checkpoint in al-Sawa village, where gunmen fired from a motorcycle. On July 26, ISIS cells carried out coordinated attacks on SDF checkpoints and vehicles across multiple areas in Deir ez-Zor, killing one SDF member and injuring another.
