{"id":129480,"date":"2025-09-09T10:20:06","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T10:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=129480"},"modified":"2025-09-09T10:20:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T10:20:08","slug":"nearly-19-million-syrians-in-need-of-humanitarian-aid-un-official","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/129480\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearly 19 Million Syrians in need of humanitarian aid \u2013 UN official\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Syria, Adam Abdelmoula, said on Tuesday that nearly 19 million Syrians remain in need of humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking at a press conference in Damascus before concluding his mission, Abdelmoula reviewed the U.N.\u2019s work in Syria, its priorities, and future plans to strengthen the humanitarian response and support recovery and development, according to Syrian state-run news agency SANA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that 16.5 million people inside Syria require assistance, in addition to 2.5 million returnees, including internally displaced persons and refugees returning from abroad, many of whom find their homes destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSyria is still suffering from a displacement crisis,\u201d Abdelmoula said, noting that more than six million Syrians remain displaced within the country and another six million live as refugees worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also highlighted that approximately 24 percent of Syrian homes have been damaged or destroyed in recent years, while funding for recovery efforts remains \u201cvery scarce.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So far, the 2025 humanitarian response plan has received only 14 percent of the $3.2 billion required to meet Syria\u2019s urgent needs, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reflecting on his tenure, Abdelmoula noted, \u201cI first came to Syria as resident coordinator in 2012 during a very difficult period.
