{"id":128701,"date":"2025-08-24T18:59:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-24T18:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=128701"},"modified":"2025-08-24T18:59:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T18:59:08","slug":"syrian-election-committee-dismisses-aanes-criticism-of-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/128701\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian election committee dismisses AANES criticism of vote"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Saad al-Yaziji<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) <\/strong>\u2013 The head of the legal committee of Syria\u2019s parliamentary elections, Ahmad Qanout, said on Sunday that the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) has no authority to determine the legitimacy of the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Qanout\u2019s remarks came in response to a statement issued earlier the same day by the AANES, which urged the international community and the United Nations not to recognize the elections. The AANES said the process does not reflect the will of Syrians and contradicts the framework for a political solution set out under UN Security Council Resolution 2254.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mahmoud al-Meslet, co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), also commented on the issue on Sunday, stating that the upcoming elections are a national entitlement, but must be inclusive: \u201cThey should represent all Syrians without exception.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Qanout, speaking to Syria TV, described the AANES statement as an attempt to \u201cdisturb\u201d the election process.
