{"id":128230,"date":"2025-08-12T15:29:49","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T15:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=128230"},"modified":"2025-08-12T15:29:51","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T15:29:51","slug":"qamishli-bids-farewell-to-kurdish-ypg-co-founder-nour-al-din-al-soufi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/128230\/","title":{"rendered":"Qamishli bids farewell to Kurdish YPG co-founder Nour al-Din al-Soufi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Taysir Muhammed<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) <\/strong>\u2013 Thousands of residents from Qamishli and its countryside, northeast Syria,&nbsp; attended On Tuesday the funeral ceremony of Kurdish leader and one of the founders of the People\u2019s Protection Units (YPG), Nour al-Din al-Soufi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event&nbsp; was attended by the Commander -in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), General Mazloum Abdi, alongside prominent figures from the SDF and the wider region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Soufi, aged 55, lost life in April 2021 following a Turkish attack on the Gara area in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Born in 1970 in the village of Mushayrifa near Qamishli, al-Soufi was one of the founders of the People\u2019s Protection Units (YPG).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement released by the YPG Media Center this past Sunday, they highlighted al-Soufi\u2019s significant contributions to founding the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and advancing the efforts of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The funeral procession, organized in coordination with the Autonomous Administration institutions and the Martyrs\u2019 Families Council, took place at the Martyrs of March 12 Stadium in Qamishli.
