{"id":128129,"date":"2025-08-09T12:03:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T12:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=128129"},"modified":"2025-08-09T12:03:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-09T12:03:18","slug":"syrian-communities-to-convene-meeting-in-brussels-to-promote-federalism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/128129\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian communities to convene meeting in Brussels to promote federalism"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Brussels will host on Sunday a meeting of the Syrian Communities Coordination Committee, aimed at establishing mechanisms for coordination among Syria\u2019s diverse communities and launching a broad Syrian dialogue based on federalism, partnership, and pluralism, according to the meeting\u2019s preparatory committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Committee was formed on March 8 of this year through a coalition of Syrian civil and political initiatives working to develop frameworks for cooperation among the country\u2019s various components.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mona Ghanem, member of the preparatory committee, told North Press that the meeting \u2014 held under the title \u201cInitiative for Dialogue on Federalism and Democracy in Syria\u201d \u2014 will serve as an initial platform for exchanging views on how to launch a comprehensive national dialogue that addresses the root causes of the Syrian crisis, grounded in federalism, partnership, and pluralism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ghanem said that the agenda will also include discussions on setting a date for a general conference in Qamishli in northeastern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She added that the Committee brings together activists, intellectuals, and public figures representing Syria\u2019s social mosaic, including Kurds, Alawites, Druze, Sunnis, Syriacs, Assyrians, Armenians, Ismailis, Turkmens, Circassians, and others with deep historical roots in the country\u2019s national identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Committee\u2019s core principles affirm Syria\u2019s territorial and societal unity, while advocating constitutional recognition of the country\u2019s ethnic, religious, sectarian, and cultural diversity \u2014 viewing it as a source of richness and strength rather than division or conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ghanem emphasized that the Committee recognizes the national and cultural rights of all Syrian communities and is committed to building a state founded on the rule of law, separation of powers, and the protection of rights and public freedoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting is expected to issue an outcome document titled: \u201cPreparatory Meeting of the Initiative for Dialogue on Federalism and Democracy in Syria.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Abdulsalam Khoja<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Brussels will host on Sunday a meeting of the Syrian Communities Coordination Committee, aimed at establishing mechanisms for coordination among Syria\u2019s diverse communities and launching a broad Syrian dialogue based on federalism, partnership, and pluralism, according to the meeting\u2019s preparatory committee.
