DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Human Rights Watch (HRW) warned on Tuesday that the recent outbreak of violence between tribal fighters and Druze factions in Suwayda, southern Syria, has triggered a deepening humanitarian crisis and widespread civilian suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the HRW said the conflict\u2014intensified by the involvement of Syrian government forces and Israeli airstrikes\u2014has devastated essential services including water, electricity and healthcare infrastructure as well as displaced tens of thousands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile communities in Sweida experience displacement and lack food, water, and health care, insecurity, political obstacles, and deep mistrust are holding up humanitarian aid,\u201d said Adam Coogle<\/a>, HRW deputy Middle East director. \u201cNo matter who controls the territory, humanitarian assistance needs to be allowed in immediately and without interference.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United Nations reported<\/a> that at least 93,400 people were displaced within Suwayda Governorate as of July 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HRW documented 306 deaths, including at least 23 children, primarily caused by gunfire and shrapnel. Many bodies remain unregistered, some lying in hospitals or rural medical centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HRW called on all parties to the conflict\u2014especially Syrian government forces and dominant armed factions\u2014to guarantee the safe passage of humanitarian convoys, and to allow engineers to restore essential services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organization also urged all sides to respect and protect relief workers, avoid targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure, and safeguard the independence of humanitarian operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
