{"id":127559,"date":"2025-07-22T08:34:03","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T08:34:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=127559"},"modified":"2025-07-22T08:34:05","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T08:34:05","slug":"u-s-state-dept-confirms-death-of-american-citizen-in-suwayda-clashes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/127559\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. State Dept. confirms death of American citizen in Suwayda clashes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <strong>SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>The U.S. State Department confirmed on Tuesday the death of an American citizen during the recent outbreak of violence in Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an exclusive statement to North Press, a State Department official expressed deep concern over the incident and extended condolences to the victim\u2019s family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe offer condolences to the family on their loss and are providing consular assistance to them,\u201d the official said, emphasizing that the safety and security of U.S. citizens abroad remains a top priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the statement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio repeatedly stressed the importance of safeguarding American citizens worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The American citizen was killed amid fierce fighting in Suwayda, where clashes between Druze factions and armed groups from Bedouin tribes erupted, resulting in more than 1,000 dead and injured. Government involvement further complicated the situation on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although a fragile ceasefire has been in place for the past two days, tensions remain high.
