{"id":126990,"date":"2025-07-06T06:02:37","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T06:02:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=126990"},"modified":"2025-07-06T06:11:26","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T06:11:26","slug":"militant-group-claims-responsibility-for-syrias-latakia-wildfires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/126990\/","title":{"rendered":"Militant group claims responsibility for Syria&#8217;s Latakia wildfires"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LATAKIA, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The militant group &#8220;Saraya Ansar al-Sunna&#8221; claimed on Sunday responsibility for the wildfires currently sweeping through the mountainous region of Latakia in western Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group, which frequently announces attacks motivated by sectarian and religious motives, asserted in a statement that its members set fire to forests in the Qastal area of Latakia governorate on July 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fires, the group claimed, spread to other areas, leading to the displacement of local residents and cases of suffocation due to smoke inhalation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statement was posted on a Telegram channel bearing the group\u2019s name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSaraya Ansar al-Sunna\u201d is a relatively new and little-known faction.
