{"id":126705,"date":"2025-06-23T10:23:48","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T10:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=126705"},"modified":"2025-06-23T10:23:49","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T10:23:49","slug":"international-condemnation-grows-after-deadly-church-bombing-in-damascus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/126705\/","title":{"rendered":"International condemnation grows after deadly church bombing in Damascus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Arab and Western nations, along with international organizations, strongly condemned on Monday the deadly bombing that targeted a church in Damascus on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Syria\u2019s Ministry of Interior, the attack was carried out by a gunman affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS), who opened fire on worshippers at Mar Elias Church in the al-Dweilaa neighborhood of Damascus before detonating an explosive belt, killing himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The assault resulted in 25 fatalities and 63 injuries during Sunday services, as dozens of people were present at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The attack was widely denounced by Jordan, Italy, Turkey, France, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Belgium, and the European Union\u2019s acting mission chief, along with the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Muslim World League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These parties condemned the bombing as a \u201cheinous act of terrorism\u201d and expressed solidarity with Syria, calling for a thorough investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.N. Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, also issued a statement urging a comprehensive investigation and concrete steps to prevent such violence.
