{"id":126197,"date":"2025-05-28T12:54:58","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T12:54:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=126197"},"modified":"2025-05-28T12:55:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T12:55:00","slug":"eus-decision-to-lift-sanctions-on-syria-comes-into-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/126197\/","title":{"rendered":"EU&#8217;s decision to lift sanctions on Syria comes into effect"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>The European Union announced on Wednesday that the decision to lift all sectoral economic sanctions imposed on Syria has officially come into effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, it extended sanctions on the former regime, whose networks, it said, continue to threaten the country\u2019s stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Council of the EU said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/press\/press-releases\/2025\/05\/28\/syria-eu-adopts-legal-acts-to-lift-economic-sanctions-on-syria-enacting-recent-political-agreement\/\">press<\/a> release, &#8220;The adoption formalises the political decision announced on 20 May 2025, and aims at supporting the Syrian people in reuniting and rebuilding a new, inclusive, pluralistic and peaceful Syria.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All sectoral sanctions will be lifted except those related to security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;In line with its call for accountability and its support to a peaceful transition, the Council has&nbsp;extended the listings of individuals and entities&nbsp;linked to the Assad regime&nbsp;until 1 June 2026.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The Council will continue monitoring developments on the ground and stands ready to introduce further restrictive measures against human rights violators and those fueling instability in Syria,&#8221; the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Abdulsalam Khoja<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 The European Union announced on Wednesday that the decision to lift all sectoral economic sanctions imposed on Syria has officially come into effect.
