Cory Mills met with President al-Sharaa for a 90-minute discussion focused on U.S. sanctions and the role of Iran in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rep. Marlin Stutzman is scheduled to meet with President al-Sharaa on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked about meeting a leader still sanctioned by Washington, Stutzman cited examples of Trump\u2019s administration engaging with Iranian and North Korean leaders, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us-congressmen-visit-syria-first-trip-since-assads-ouster-2025-04-18\/\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe shouldn\u2019t be afraid to talk to anybody,\u201d he said, and said he was eager to see how Syria would deal with foreign fighters and rule the country\u2019s diverse population inclusively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere\u2019s an opportunity here &#8211; these opportunities come around once in a lifetime,\u201d Stutzman told Reuters. \u201cI don\u2019t want Syria pushed into the arms of China, or back into the arms of Russia and Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Abdulsalam Khoja<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Two U.S. Congressmen held on Friday talks with Syria\u2019s Transitional President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, during a visit to the Syrian capital, Damascus.
