QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – <\/strong>Myles Caggins, the former spokesperson for the U.S.-led Global Coalition, stated on Monday that Washington should prioritize establishing peace in Syria and pressuring Turkey to cease its attacks on northeastern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an exclusive interview with North Press, Caggins said, “The Trump administration has an opportunity to develop a strong partnership with the transitional Syrian government in Damascus and to apply pressure on Turkey to stop making attacks, for instance the attacks in Tishrin Dam.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caggins, who also serves as a senior non-resident fellow at the American New Lines Institute, emphasized the importance of dialogue between Damascus, Washington, Ankara, and the European Union in achieving lasting peace in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He clarified, “There needs to be discussions about the relationship in the Kurdish question and now is a great time.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out that Turkish forces have conducted numerous operations against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in recent years, which have resulted in killing civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Coalition official also highlighted the U.S. military’s collaboration with the SDF in combating ISIS. He stated, “I anticipate that there will be members of the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate who will continue to provide funding for U.S. military operations in Syria as well as in Iraq.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
