He also urged the UN to arrange organized convoys and ensure adequate support for their return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Border Control Measures<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to facilitating returns, Aoun called for stricter measures to prevent unauthorized crossings along the Lebanese-Syrian border. The issue of border control has been a recurring concern for Lebanese authorities, citing security and economic challenges exacerbated by unregulated movements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>UN Perspective<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grandi acknowledged the changes in Syria that could enable refugees to return, citing discussions with Syria\u2019s new administration. \u201cThe evolving situation in Syria opens the door for refugees to return to their country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grandi urged the Lebanese government to cooperate closely with the international community to support refugees while ensuring that returns are voluntary, safe, and sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe new Syrian authorities have expressed a willingness to facilitate gradual repatriation, which we hope will address the concerns of all parties,\u201d Grandi added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Refugee Struggles<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lebanon currently hosts over 1.5 million Syrian refugees, a significant portion of the population, placing immense pressure on the country\u2019s economy, infrastructure, and public services. The call for repatriation comes as Lebanon grapples with an ongoing economic crisis and limited resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges Ahead<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite calls for repatriation, challenges remain. Many refugees express concerns about safety and the availability of basic services in their homeland.
