{"id":119889,"date":"2024-12-18T07:03:31","date_gmt":"2024-12-18T07:03:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=119889"},"modified":"2024-12-18T07:03:33","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T07:03:33","slug":"u-s-extends-sdf-turkey-ceasefire-pushes-for-reduced-tensions-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/119889\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. extends SDF-Turkey ceasefire, pushes for reduced tensions in Syria\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The U.S. State Department confirmed on Tuesday evening that it is maintaining discussions with both the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkey to address ongoing tensions in northern Syria.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking at a press briefing, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said they are engaged in discussions with the SDF and Turkey, working to chart a path that reduces tensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Miller announced that the ceasefire between the SDF and Turkey has been extended until the end of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing concerns about a potential Turkish offensive on northern Syria, Miller emphasized that they do not believe it is in anyone\u2019s interest to see an escalation of conflict in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/briefings\/department-press-briefing-december-17-2024\/\">stated<\/a> that &#8220;We don\u2019t want to see any party take advantage of the current unstable situation to advance their own narrow interests at the expense of the broader Syrian national interest.&#8221; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acknowledging the challenges, Miller noted, \u201cIt\u2019s a very challenging issue. There is a \u2013 there are longstanding tensions between T\u00fcrkiye and these groups [SDF],&#8221; adding that &#8220;It is not an easy path forward but it is certainly one that we\u2019re pursuing.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The State Department continues to evaluate the situation in Syria, considering the appropriate timing to send personnel to advance the
