BAGHDAD, Iraq (North Press)<\/strong> \u2013 Iraq has responded to a video message from Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, leader of Hay\u2019at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra, urging Baghdad to stay neutral and refrain from involvement in Syria\u2019s ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister\u2019s Advisor, Hussein Alawi, stated that Iraq is closely monitoring the developments in Syria and emphasized Baghdad\u2019s commitment to the country\u2019s territorial integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are observing the situation in Syria closely and will not stand idle,\u201d Alawi said in a statement to Al-Arabiya\/Al-Hadath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remarks were made hours after al-Jolani\u2019s video appeal, which called on Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia\u2019 Al-Sudani to prevent Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) from intervening in Syria.
