{"id":118943,"date":"2024-12-02T06:38:46","date_gmt":"2024-12-02T06:38:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=118943"},"modified":"2024-12-02T06:38:48","modified_gmt":"2024-12-02T06:38:48","slug":"u-s-turkey-fms-discuss-de-escalation-in-northern-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/118943\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S., Turkey FMs discuss de-escalation in northern Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held on Sunday discussions on the rapidly evolving situation in northern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, the discussions emphasized the urgency of de-escalation and safeguarding civilian lives and infrastructure in conflict-hit areas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/secretary-blinkens-call-with-foreign-minister-fidan-on-the-situation-in-syria\/\">press release<\/a>, Miller highlighted that the two diplomats discussed strategies to address the escalating tensions while prioritizing the protection of civilians and critical infrastructure in the affected regions, including Aleppo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting comes as Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, once known as al-Nusra Front), launched a large-scale offensive on Nov. 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The operation has led to the SNA and HTS seizing full control of Idlib governorate, extensive parts of Aleppo, and areas in the countryside of Hama.
