{"id":118505,"date":"2024-11-20T11:16:16","date_gmt":"2024-11-20T11:16:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=118505"},"modified":"2024-11-20T11:16:18","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T11:16:18","slug":"syria-continues-to-violate-icj-order-to-prevent-acts-of-torture-hrw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/118505\/","title":{"rendered":"Syria continues to violate ICJ order to prevent acts of torture &#8211; HRW"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Human Rights Watch (HRW) announced on Wednesday that the Syrian government has failed to comply with the International Court of Justice&#8217;s (ICJ) order to take all necessary measures to prevent acts of torture in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to HRW&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2024\/11\/20\/syria-violating-world-court-order\">report<\/a>, Syrians continue to face the risks of enforced disappearance, torture, and death in detention centers characterized by appalling conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Syrian officials are still sending people to the country\u2019s detention centers, which are notorious for torture,&#8221; said Balkees Jarrah, associate director for international justice at HRW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jarrah warned that Syrians, including those who have returned voluntarily or were forcibly repatriated from host countries, remain vulnerable to enforced disappearance, arbitrary detention, and inhumane treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HRW urged countries hosting Syrian refugees to immediately halt any forced or coercive repatriation processes and ensure that any returns are voluntary and adhere to international legal standards.
