{"id":118427,"date":"2024-11-16T09:29:02","date_gmt":"2024-11-16T09:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=118427"},"modified":"2024-11-16T09:29:03","modified_gmt":"2024-11-16T09:29:03","slug":"u-s-sanctions-syrian-official-over-human-rights-violations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/118427\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. sanctions Syrian official over human rights violations\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The U.S. Department of State announced on Friday sanctions on an official of the Syrian government forces along with his wife and four adult children over involvement in human rights violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of State sanctioned Brigadier General Abdel Salam Fajr Mahmoud of the Syrian Air Force, along with his wife, Suhair Nader al-Jundi, and their four adult children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sanctions, issued under Section 7031(c) of U.S. law, are a response to his alleged involvement in gross human rights violations, including acts of torture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/marking-one-year-since-icj-provisional-measures-against-syria-with-designation-of-syrian-official-due-to-involvement-in-gross-violations-of-human-rights\/\">statement<\/a> released on the Department&#8217;s official website, these measures coincide with the one-year anniversary of provisional steps taken by the International Court of Justice against the Syrian government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sanctions target Mahmoud and his family for their roles in severe human rights abuses, described as torture and cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statement also highlighted the staggering toll of the Syrian conflict, reporting over 15,000 documented cases of deaths due to torture and abuse, including American citizens.
