{"id":117722,"date":"2024-10-17T06:05:50","date_gmt":"2024-10-17T06:05:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=117722"},"modified":"2024-10-17T06:05:52","modified_gmt":"2024-10-17T06:05:52","slug":"dutch-woman-faces-8-years-in-prison-for-enslaving-yazidis-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/117722\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutch woman faces 8 years in prison for enslaving Yazidis in Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Prosecutors in the Netherlands asked on Wednesday judges to sentence a 33-year-old Dutch woman, Hasna Aarab, to eight years in prison for her involvement with the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria and the enslavement of two Yazidi women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sentence was based on Aarab&#8217;s involvement in crimes against humanity between 2015 and 2016, during the ISIS era in Raqqa, northern Syria.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aarab, who moved to ISIS-controlled Raqqa with her young son and her ISIS militant husband in 2015, is accused of enslaving two Yazidi women during her time in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the victims, referred to as Z., testified in the district court in The Hague, stating that Aarab played a role in the broader ISIS enslavement of Yazidis, including her own two daughters who were kept as domestic slaves in other households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I burned inside when I saw her with her son while I did not have my own children around me,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/wtvbam.com\/2024\/10\/16\/prosecutors-seek-8-years-for-dutch-woman-accused-of-keeping-yazidi-slaves-in-syria\/\">Z. told the court<\/a>, as Aarab tearfully listened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/117629\/\">Hasna Aarab denied<\/a> the charges, claiming she did not actively participate in the enslavement and that the Yazidi victims were lying when they accused her of giving orders and forcing them to pray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court has yet to set a date for the final judgment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Jwan Shekaki<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Prosecutors in the Netherlands asked on Wednesday judges to sentence a 33-year-old Dutch woman, Hasna Aarab, to eight years in prison for her involvement with the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria and the enslavement of two Yazidi women.
