QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Myles Caggins, former spokesperson for the U.S.-led Global Coalition, said on Thursday that the areas run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) could serve as a model for the future of Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an exclusive interview with North Press during his visit to Qamishli, Northeast Syria, Caggins highlighted the potential of regions like Derik (al-Malikiyah), Afrin, and Raqqa to showcase a viable path forward for the entire country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He suggested that a future Syria might adopt a system of democratic confederalism, as outlined in U.N. Resolution 2254.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on past events, Caggins noted to Turkey’s 2019 Operation Peace Spring\u2014an offensive by Turkish forces and their affiliated Syrian National Army (SNA) factions in the cities of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad\u2014as a significant setback to the ongoing fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed the importance of uniting all regional actors to prevent the resurgence of ISIS, which continues to pose a threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caggins also described Syria as a battleground of competing forces, including Iranian-backed militias in the Syrian Desert, remnants of ISIS, and aggressive actions by Turkey along the border, not to mention the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), in addition to the presence of Russian forces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
