{"id":116104,"date":"2024-08-16T15:39:10","date_gmt":"2024-08-16T15:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=116104"},"modified":"2024-08-16T15:39:12","modified_gmt":"2024-08-16T15:39:12","slug":"syrian-government-refuses-u-s-accusation-of-arresting-austin-tice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/116104\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian government refuses U.S. accusation of arresting Austin Tice"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>The Syrian government refused on Thursday the accusation of the U.S. administration regarding the abduction journalist Austin Tice describing it as &#8220;baseless and represent a deliberate distortion of the facts.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Syria&#8217;s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement that the statement released by the U.S. administration included &#8220;false accusations against the Syrian government of arresting American citizen Austin Tice, a former U.S. Marine.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ministry added that those accusations regarding Tice or other Americans are baseless, and represent a deliberate distortion of facts, and a continuation of this American administration\u2019s approach of directing accusations against Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Aug. 14, U.S. President Joe Biden called for the immediate release of Austin Tice, a former U.S. Marine and a freelance journalist who was kidnapped in Syria in August 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have repeatedly pressed the government of Syria to work with us so that we can, at last, bring Austin home,\u201d Biden said in a statement marking 12 years since Tice\u2019s abduction. \u201cToday, I once again call for his immediate release.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Austin Tice was abducted in August 2012 while covering anti-government protests in Damascus.
