{"id":115835,"date":"2024-08-06T06:50:13","date_gmt":"2024-08-06T06:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=115835"},"modified":"2024-08-06T06:50:15","modified_gmt":"2024-08-06T06:50:15","slug":"german-court-rejects-former-syrian-officers-appeal-against-conviction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/115835\/","title":{"rendered":"German court rejects former Syrian officer&#8217;s appeal against conviction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) &#8211;<\/strong> A German federal court rejected on Monday the appeal of a former Syrian secret police officer who had been convicted of overseeing the abuse of detainees in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Federal Court of Justice stated that it found no &#8220;legal error to the detriment of the accused&#8221; and dismissed all &#8220;procedural objections.&#8221;<strong>&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In January 2022, Koblenz court in the western German city sentenced Anwar Raslan, ex-colonel of the Syrian Intelligence, to life in prison for crimes against humanity for his part in murdering 58 detainees, raping others, and torturing about 4,000 prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Raslan, who headed the Interrogation Branch Damascus detention center known as al-Khatib Branch 251, arrived in Germany in 2015 and was allowed to practice medicine under his Syrian medical credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Jwan Shekaki<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) &#8211; A German federal court rejected on Monday the appeal of a former Syrian secret police officer who had been convicted of overseeing the abuse of detainees in Syria.
