{"id":114708,"date":"2024-06-13T06:53:39","date_gmt":"2024-06-13T06:53:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=114708"},"modified":"2024-06-13T06:53:41","modified_gmt":"2024-06-13T06:53:41","slug":"u-s-court-convicts-man-of-training-fighting-with-isis-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/114708\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. court convicts man of training, fighting with ISIS in Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> A federal court found a man guilty of traveling out of the United States to receive training and fight with the Islamic State group (ISIS) in Syria ten years ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/jury-convicts-kentucky-man-multiple-terrorism-charges\">U.S. Department of Justice<\/a> stated on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mirsad Hariz Adem Ramic, 34, was convicted on Tuesday June 11 by a jury in the city of Bowling Green in the southern State of Kentucky of multiple counts of supporting and receiving military training by ISIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The evidence at trial established that after joining ISIS, Ramic attended an ISIS training camp, where he received military-type training,&#8221; the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ramic, who holds citizenship in both the United States and Bosnia, joined an ISIS fighting unit comprised mainly of Bosnian fighters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statement pointed out that Ramic participated in an ISIS attack in the city of Kobani in northern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ramic has been held in federal custody since December 2021 after he was deported to the U.S. from Turkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the statement, Ramic is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 5 and &#8220;faces a maximum penalty of 50 years in prison, a fine of $750,000 and a term of supervised release up to life.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Ster Youssef<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 A federal court found a man guilty of traveling out of the United States to receive training and fight with the Islamic State group (ISIS) in Syria ten years ago, U.S. Department of Justice stated on Wednesday.
