{"id":114493,"date":"2024-06-05T08:35:36","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T08:35:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=114493"},"modified":"2024-06-05T08:35:38","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T08:35:38","slug":"syrian-female-journalist-wins-eu-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/114493\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian female journalist wins EU award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong><strong>A Syrian female journalist won on Tuesday <\/strong>the Samir Kassir Award for Freedom of the Press<strong> that was presented by the European Union (EU).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hadeel Arja, 39, won the EU award for an investigation <\/strong>entitled \u201cThe Shocking Practice of Forced Puberty in Northern Syria\u2019s Camps\u201d that was published on March 15, 2024 in Daraj Media and Tiny Hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arja&#8217;s investigation sheds light on one of the most under-reported abuses that girls face in internally displaced people\u2019s camps in northern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeas.europa.eu\/delegations\/lebanon\/european-union-rewards-journalists-egypt-syria-and-yemen-during-2024-edition-samir-kassir-award_en\">Samir Kassir Award<\/a> for Freedom of the Press ceremony is held annually in Beirut by the EU Delegation to Lebanon and the Samir Kassir Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The award was founded by the EU and is recognized internationally as a flagship prize for press freedom and the most prestigious journalism award in the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is named after Lebanese journalist Samir Kassir who was assassinated on June 2, 2005 in Beirut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two other journalists, one from Egypt and the other from Yemen, won the award, as it is presented for three categories; Opinion Piece, Investigative Article and Audio-visual News Report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The winner in each of the three categories is awarded a prize of \u20ac10,000.
