Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Today, almost 17 million Syrians \u2013 almost three-quarters of the population \u2013 still require humanitarian assistance, a startling 25 per cent increase since 2021,&#8221; Rajasingham said during his statement at the 8<sup>th<\/sup> Brussels Conference on &#8220;Supporting the future of Syria and the region\u201d that took place in Brussels.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that there are almost 13 million people in Syria facing acute food insecurity and hunger. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;More than half a million children urgently need treatment for acute malnutrition,&#8221; the U.N. official noted. &#8220;And more than 1.8 million people need support to access safe water.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He indicated that only eight percent out of the $4 billion has been received to provide humanitarian support in Syria this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He warned that there is a real risk that it will contribute to a further escalation in the crisis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The humanitarian community responding in Syria, estimates that an additional 2.6 million people will be at risk of becoming acutely food insecure,&#8221; Ramesh Rajasingham said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Jwan Shekaki &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Almost three-quarters of the population of Syria still require humanitarian assistance, a startling 25 percent increase since 2021, said Ramesh Rajasingham, Director of the U.N.
