DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Jordan Customs announced on Tuesday thwarting two separate smuggling attempts involving a total of 73,500 captagon pills at the Nasib-Jaber border crossing with Syria.   <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The media spokesperson for the Jordan Customs Department said that customs officials stationed at Nasib-Jaber border crossing had successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 38,500 captagon pills concealed with a passenger arriving from a neighboring country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, in a discrete incident, 35,000 captagon pills were seized at the same crossing from a passenger bus arriving from a neighboring country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nasib-Jaber crossing links Syria with Jordan. It was reopened in 2021, after the Syrian government forces regained control over the southern region of the country and defeated the armed opposition factions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan has frequently stated its determination in fighting drugs coming to its territory from Syria and has also targeted drug smugglers in Syrian territory several times as authorities frequently said that drug and arms smuggling from Syria undermines its national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Feb. 17, the interior ministers of Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq held talks<\/a> in Amman and agreed to set up a joint telecommunications cell to exchange information regarding the process of combating drug trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
