{"id":113175,"date":"2024-04-14T16:19:30","date_gmt":"2024-04-14T16:19:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=113175"},"modified":"2024-04-14T16:19:32","modified_gmt":"2024-04-14T16:19:32","slug":"u-s-official-excludes-wider-war-in-the-middle-east","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/113175\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. official excludes wider war in the Middle East \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby stated on Sunday that the Iranian attack would not escalate in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an exclusive interview with NBC News, Kirby said U.S. President Joe Biden doesn\u2019t \u201cbelieve\u201d that Iran\u2019s overnight attacks against Israel need to escalate into a wider war in the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe President doesn\u2019t believe that it needs to move in that direction whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kirby&#8217;s remarks came after 24 hours of Iranian attacks against Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday, Iran launched over 100 drones and missiles towards Israel in retaliation for the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, which resulted in the killing of top-ranking commanders of Iran&#8217;s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).&nbsp; <strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The President doesn\u2019t believe that it needs to move in that direction whatsoever,&#8221; Kirby added to NBC News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kirby declined to \u201cget into hypotheticals\u201d about whether the U.S. would back an Israeli counterattack against Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIsrael hasn\u2019t made any decisions that I\u2019m aware of about what the next step is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On April 1, Israeli airstrikes <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/112780\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">targeted<\/a> Iran\u2019s consulate in Damascus, which is adjacent to the main embassy building, killing five IRGC officers and two generals, including Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi, commander of the IRGC\u2019s Quds Force in Syria and Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, the IDF stated that \u201ca small number of hits were identified, including at an IDF base in southern Israel, where minor damage was caused to infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Saad
