Mohammad Bagheri, Iran\u2019s joint chief of staff, said during the funeral of Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi that Iran will decide when and how to retaliate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe time, type, plan of the operation will be decided by us, in a way that makes Israel regret what it did,\u201d he said. \u201cThis will definitely be done.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On April 1, Israeli airstrikes <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/112780\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">targeted<\/a> the Iranian consulate in Damascus, which is adjacent to the main embassy building, killing two generals and five officers of the IRGC. The strikes killed 7 IRGC members, including Zahedi, commander of the IRGC\u2019s Quds Force in Syria and Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Israel has intensified airstrikes on Iran-linked targets, including weapons warehouses in Syria after the start of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct.7, 2023.
