{"id":111372,"date":"2024-02-20T08:05:23","date_gmt":"2024-02-20T08:05:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=111372"},"modified":"2024-02-20T08:05:24","modified_gmt":"2024-02-20T08:05:24","slug":"uk-to-release-citizen-who-joined-jihadist-groups-in-syria-in-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/111372\/","title":{"rendered":"UK to release citizen who joined jihadist groups in Syria in 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 &nbsp;<\/strong>ABritish citizen who joined a jihadist group in Syria during the civil war will be freed from prison, the Daily Mail reported on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mohammed Nahin Ahmed is set to be freed from jail after being given the green light by the Parole Board, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-13100277\/British-Islamic-terrorist-Syria-jihadi-jail-freed.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ahmed and a friend of him, then both 22, travelled to Syria in May 2013 to join \u201cKataib al-Muhajireen,\u201d an al-Qaeda linked terrorist group, after contacting Islamic extremists who were fighting against the Syrian government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ahmed and his childhood friend Yusuf Zubair Sarwar were jailed and branded \u201cdangerous\u201d in 2014 after pleading guilty for joining a terrorist group in Syria. They were sentenced to 12 years and eight months with an extended license period of five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/101061\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sarwar was released from jail<\/a> on license after a Parole Board hearing in April 2022, and he was required to serve two-thirds of his custodial sentence before being considered for release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ahmed and Sarwar left Britain claiming to be going on a University trip to Turkey but went to Syria instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They were arrested on their arrival in the UK in 2014, as traces of military-grade explosives were found on their clothes, including TNT and nitroglycerine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shocking photos showing them armed with guns emerged as part of the case after they spent eight months in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nigel Mills, Member of Parliament of the UK, said: \u201cThis is a worrying situation.
