{"id":110686,"date":"2024-01-31T12:14:19","date_gmt":"2024-01-31T12:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=110686"},"modified":"2024-01-31T12:14:21","modified_gmt":"2024-01-31T12:14:21","slug":"u-s-diplomat-accuses-turkey-of-threatening-natos-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/110686\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. diplomat accuses Turkey of threatening NATO\u2019s security"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>A U.S. official accused Turkey on Monday of threatening NATO\u2019s security with its purchase of a Russian air defense platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said that her country will only allow Turkey to return to the F-35 fighter jet program if it agrees to ditch Russia\u2019s S-400 missile defense system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. may lift sanctions on Turkey if it is more amenable, Nuland told CNN Turk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turkey would be brought in from the cold on the F-35 project if it resolved the spat. Turkey was booted from the program in 2019 after getting the S-400 from Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the S-400 issue was solved, the U.S. would welcome Turkey back into the F-35 conversation and the CAATSA issue would end, Nuland added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It remains unclear whether Ankara will accept Nuland\u2019s offer to walk away from the Russian air defense system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Emma Jamal<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 A U.S. official accused Turkey on Monday of threatening NATO\u2019s security with its purchase of a Russian air defense platform.
