{"id":109487,"date":"2023-12-30T08:12:02","date_gmt":"2023-12-30T08:12:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=109487"},"modified":"2023-12-30T08:12:04","modified_gmt":"2023-12-30T08:12:04","slug":"israeli-strike-on-damascus-airport-kills-11-iranians-news-agency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/109487\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Israeli strike on Damascus airport kills 11 Iranians \u2013 news agency&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> A fresh Israeli airstrike on Damascus International Airport on Dec. 23 killed 11 senior Iranian military officials, Fox News Digital cited on Friday an expert as saying.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;While there is no independent confirmation of Guard Corps names or ranks, the IRGC has long seen Syria as a critical regional hub to project power into the Eastern Mediterranean and connect its constellation of proxies called the \u2018Axis of Resistance,\u2019&#8221; Behnam Ben Taleblu, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/attack-syria-kills-11-senior-iranian-military-officers-injures-top-advisor-damascus-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ben Taleblu said the IRGC top officials are operating in Syria and directing a war away from their own soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Israel goes on launching missiles on sites in Syria that are allegedly used by Iran and its affiliated militias especially the Damascus International Airport. The strikes have been intensified since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7. Israel claims that the strikes target weapons warehouses linked to Iranian-backed militias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Syria\u2019s state-run news agency of SANA cited a military source on Friday as saying \u201cAround 11:05 p.m. Thursday, the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the southern region.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Jerusalem Post reported that the strike killed 11 leaders of the IRGC at the Damascus International Airport on Dec. 28. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The IRGC leadership targeted also reportedly included Nur Rashid, commander of the IRGC in eastern Syria, who only suffered injuries from the attack. The group had supposedly visited the country to meet with high-ranking delegates from Syria, according to Fox News. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Jwan
