QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> On Sunday, a suspected U.S. airstrike in northern Kirkuk, Iraq, killed five militiamen of an Iran-backed militia who were preparing to launch projectiles at U.S. forces, according to three Iraqi security sources cited<\/a> by Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier today, North Press correspondent reported<\/a> an attack with multiple rockets at a U.S. base near the village of Kharab al-Jir in the countryside of Rmelan, northeast Syria. An American official said that no casualties or damage to infrastructure occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since October 17, Iran-backed militias have claimed responsibility for over 70 attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria due to Washington’s support for Israel in its war against Hamas in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 22, the U.S. conducted two rounds of airstrikes against Iran-backed militias in Baghdad, killing  at least 10 militants, in retaliation for attacks against its bases in Iraq and Syria, which drew backlash from the Iraqi government saying it violated Iraq\u2019s sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
