{"id":108001,"date":"2023-11-26T11:52:16","date_gmt":"2023-11-26T11:52:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=108001"},"modified":"2023-11-26T11:52:18","modified_gmt":"2023-11-26T11:52:18","slug":"water-borne-diseases-spread-in-syrias-afrin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/108001\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Water-borne diseases spread in Syria&#8217;s Afrin<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AFRIN, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Afrin river in the countryside of Aleppo, northwest Syria, is contaminated after Turkish-backed councils redirected sewage water to it, resulting in diseases to residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residents living along the riverbed told North Press correspondent that they have been complaining for two years about the foul odors emanating from the river due to its turning into a sewage water channel, as decided by the local council in Afrin, affiliated with the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2018, the Turkish forces and the SNA &nbsp;launched \u201cOlive Branch\u201d military operation and invaded Afrin under the pretext of expelling terrorist groups and protecting civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, North Press reported a decrease in the water level of Maydanki Lake and the Afrin River after Turkey opened water drainage channels in the Maydanki Dam to draw water to the al-Rihaniyah Dam in southern Turkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residents also noted the spread of various diseases, such as Leishmaniasis and other skin diseases, due to the pollution of river water in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Mo\u2019ayed al-Sheikh<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AFRIN, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Afrin river in the countryside of Aleppo, northwest Syria, is contaminated after Turkish-backed councils redirected sewage water to it, resulting in diseases to residents.
