{"id":103359,"date":"2023-08-26T12:23:05","date_gmt":"2023-08-26T12:23:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=103359"},"modified":"2023-08-26T12:37:34","modified_gmt":"2023-08-26T12:37:34","slug":"ngo-calls-on-turkey-to-investigate-attack-on-journalists-in-ne-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/103359\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>NGO calls on Turkey to investigate attack on journalists in NE Syria<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said on Friday that Turkey should immediately initiate a thorough investigation in the recent drone strike that killed a driver and wounded a journalist in the countryside of Qamishli, northeast Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On August 23, a Turkish drone targeted a car transporting journalists of the all-female JIN TV channel in the city of Qamishli, killing driver Najm al-Din Faisal Haj Sinan and injuring journalist Dalila Agid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CPJ&#8217;s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator in Washington D.C. Sherif Mansour expressed his sadness about the attack and called on Turkish authorities to immediately investigate into the attack to bring the perpetrators to justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTurkish authorities should swiftly launch an investigation into this attack, determine who was responsible and if the reporting team was targeted, and hold the perpetrators to account,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CPJ is an American non-profit independent NGO based in New York City. It has correspondents around the world, and promotes freedom of press and defends the rights of journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Media Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) condemned the Turkish drone strike and <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/103268\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> the \u201cTurkish occupation state continues using the term \u2018combating terrorism\u2019 to target journalists.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Media Department condemned the Turkish drone attack and demanded the international community to bring the \u201ccrimes of the Turkish occupation\u201d to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CPJ emailed the Turkish president\u2019s office for comment but did not receive a reply.
