{"id":102499,"date":"2023-08-10T17:55:26","date_gmt":"2023-08-10T17:55:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=102499"},"modified":"2023-08-10T17:55:27","modified_gmt":"2023-08-10T17:55:27","slug":"civilians-poisoned-by-polluted-water-in-eastern-daraa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/102499\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Civilians poisoned by polluted water in eastern Daraa<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DARAA, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Dozens of civilians got poisoned on Wednesday due to contamination of a water well in eastern Daraa, southern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A local source informed North Press that &#8220;35 cases of poisoning, including children and women, were reported in the town of Eastern Ghariyah in the eastern countryside of Daraa, due to the contamination of a well located in the vicinity of the town.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe poisoned people were transferred to receive treatment at their own expense in the poor-equipped government hospitals that provide only first aid,&#8221; the source added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, around 10 cases, mostly children, were transferred to Daraa National Hospital so their condition can be monitored by specialized physicians, according to the source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source further explained that the contaminated well supplies water to 500 people in the town. The residents had noticed a foul odor in the water a few days prior. When they reached out to the authorities and filed complaints regarding the well, their concerns about contamination were not acknowledged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the poisoning incident, the water contamination was confirmed on Thursday following an examination of the well water by a specialized team that arrived from Daraa city. As a result, the process of pumping water to homes from that well has been halted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source pointed out that several neighborhoods in Daraa funded welling by their own expense after the government inaction on addressing people needs of water due to lack means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source also indicated that residents in many cities and towns in Daraa Governorate started to drill private wells at their own expense. This occurred after government institutions failed to fulfill their responsibilities in providing water to the population, citing a lack of resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3
