{"id":100447,"date":"2023-07-03T07:30:45","date_gmt":"2023-07-03T07:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=100447"},"modified":"2023-07-03T07:30:46","modified_gmt":"2023-07-03T07:30:46","slug":"iran-sues-3-journalists-for-exercising-rights-to-free-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/100447\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Iran sues 3 journalists for exercising rights to free speech<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Iranian authorities sue three journalists on vague \u201cpropaganda\u201d and \u201cnational security\u201d charges, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2023\/07\/03\/iran-new-charges-against-journalists\">HRW called on<\/a> the Iranian authorities to drop the charges, which stem from the journalists\u2019 reporting and writing on social media, and end the ongoing harassment, prosecution, and punishment of those exercising their rights to free speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe international community should keep cases of journalists and human rights defenders at the center of its engagement with Iran,\u201d Tara Sepehri Far, senior Iran researcher at the HRW said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sepehri Far also urged States to stop Iran and drop these and other ridiculous charges that authorities have brought against journalists.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The prosecution of the journalists \u2013 Saeideh Shafiei, Mehrnoush Zarei Henzaki, and Nasim Sultan Beigi \u2013 is scheduled to be held on the same day before Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court.
