TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) - Syrian government forces intercepted and fired on US military armored vehicles in the Tel Tamr countryside on Saturday. Russian forces also intervened after Syrian government forces intercepted a patrol by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
A North Press correspondent quoting military sources in the SDF said Syrian forces in the village of Mansaf, 6km from Tel Tamr, intercepted a US convoy conducting a regular patrol of the region.
The source said that Syrian government forces fired on US armored vehicles while trying to exit the village, which angered the latter party, leading to verbal disputes between the two parties, after which US forces returned to their base in the village of Tel Baydar on the M4 highway.
According to the source, after these disputes, Syrian forces also intercepted an SDF patrol that was on a military mission in the area. Syrian forces established a checkpoint in front of the patrol, laid land mines on both sides of the road, and prevented it from passing.
The source added, "This prompted the SDF to besiege the village and give a time limit dor Syrian forces to remove the patrol safely from the village, before Russian forces at Mabaqir station intervened to deescalate the situation."
Leaders of the SDF, Russian forces, and Syrian forces held a meeting at Mabaqir station on Sunday, amid tight security measures, to resolve these disputes, while four Russian helicopters flew over the town's airspace.
Syrian forces sometimes intercept US patrols in Tel Tamr countryside, as civilians are being incited against the US forces and throw stones, according to what a US soldier told North Press earlier.
