In a televised debate broadcasted by CNN TV Network, the American Senator and the U.S. presidential candidate Bernie Sanders criticized the relationship between the United States and Turkey, considering that it is not their ally.
Sen. Sanders strongly criticized the Turkish intervention and the Turkish military operation in north-eastern Syria. "Turkey is not a U.S. ally, when it invades another country and engages in mass slaughter."
He added that 11 thousand of the Kurdish fighters and the Syrian Democratic Forces have lost of their lives in order to defeat the Islamic State group (ISIS) and that they trusted the United States of America in order to protect them.
"And the United States said, we're with you, we're standing with you, and then one day after a phone call with Erdogan, announced by a tweet, Trump reverses that policy," Sen. Sanders said.
He noted that the world has lost confidence in the United States after what Trump had done, destroying the country's ability to draw foreign and military policies, as Sen. Sanders said.
The U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders stands out as the most popular and fortunate Democrat candidate to be a rival for the U.S. President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential elections.
