DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday at dawn, an explosion rocked the city of Daraa, southern Syria, near a settlement center in al-Kashef neighborhood, as a result a state of terror prevailed in the city.

A local source told North Press that the explosion resulted from an IED that the government forces could not dismantle, forcing them to blow it remotely.

The source added that no civilian or military casualties were reported.

A state of terror spread among the residents especially today marked the first day for the government preparatory exams, according to the same source.

The area where the explosion occurred witnesses intensive security presence and several government branches and institutions spread.

The governorate witnesses the fifth settlement process imposed on the people of Daraa. The last one was on April 20, 2022, and the first and the biggest one was in September 2018.

In July 2018, opposition factions and Syrian government forces reached an agreement, mediated by Russia, regarding the opposition-held areas of Daraa.

According to the deal, opposition militants who agreed to hand over heavy weapons, were handed special cards to protect them from prosecution, and allowed them to stay in Daraa. Those opposed to the agreement were forced to leave for Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front).
