ISIS threatens to punish women in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Militants of Islamic State (ISIS) hung on Monday leaflets on walls, ordering women to commit to Islamic clothing or they will be punished, in the town of Shuhail, east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

Osman al-Khlief, 37, from Shuhail, said that a group of ISIS sleeper cells, publically hung leaflets on walls in mosques and public places, ordering women to stick to Islamic clothing, otherwise they will be punished.

Two militants stormed a mosque in al-Zer neighborhood, west of Shuhail, and pledged that ISIS will return, and then they fled on motorcycles, according to al-Khlief.

The countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnesses increasing assassinations against Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribe leaders, and civilian population despite intensive security operations by the SDF and the Global Coalition.

ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.

After Baghouz, thousands of ISIS militants were transferred to prisons, while their families were transferred to Hawl and Roj camps in the AANES-held areas.
